She decided to call in the parents, students and teachers that were involved. She also got a legal team to deal with the situation. This was inclusive of child protective agencies, police officers and lawyers. .
If is important that as a counselor, you know what you are about and what is expected of you. In many schools, there are issues that a counselor might find unethical, issues that may cause a counselor to be concerned and uncomfortable. It is inevitable that counselors embrace ethical principles, to have a guide that you can always go back to for reference. It is important that a counselor dresses appropriate, due to the fact that men respond to what they see and as such it is unwise for a counselor to wear clothing that hugs the body. Wear clothing that is comfortable and will allow you to bend and move comfortably without being concerned about you exposing your body. This will make a client feel comfortable for consultation and counseling if it is needed. It also shows a high level of professionalism. .
It is unethical for a counselor or even a teacher to engage into a sexual relationship with a minor. Even if its ok on the teacher's side to engage in such relationship after the student graduated from high school, however, it is not the same on the counselor's path. It is advised that if a counselor enters into a relationship with a client, it should be five years after the client has been counseled. From my point of view, I believe that this rule should be reinforced. It does not spell well on the professional side of things. This may cause the students, teachers and parents to lose respect and confidence in the counselor. This might also cause the counselor to lose his or her job which will reflect badly on the counseling community.
