Sex and Athletic Performance

Other specific instructions for the athletes, including the time of sexual intercourse, sleep habits, diet habits and pre-study sex were also given to the subjects.
After all tests were completed the data was compiled and analyzed. For all of the athletes, the measured values of maximal workload, testosterone levels, heart rate and blood pressure showed, in general, no significant differences between the two days of testing. However, there was a slight increase in each of these areas on the day with sex ranging from 2.2% to 8%. Additionally, from the one-hour concentration test, the mean maximum heart rate of the athletes with and without sex was 124 and 123 respectively and their mean concentration scores were 47 and 48 respectively. One flaw in the protocol of the experiment is the possibility that not every athlete exerted the same amount of force and energy during their sexual intercourse. This could then affect their testosterone levels, heart rate, blood pressure and other measurements and therefore throw off their true results. The study approached this topic somewhat by describing a specific time for the sex as well as describing the parameters of when "sex" happened (ie. ejaculation etc.), however, the position the athlete took while having sex and how emotional and "dedicated" he was to the sex was not monitored or controlled. Another potential flaw is the measurement, observation and classification of "physical exhaustion." Every athlete has different mental strength ability and capacity and so having a universal tool of knowing when a person has reached the ultimate physical exhaustion is very unlikely without proper rules and regulations. Where one athlete could physically not move, another could just be telling himself he can't move anymore and therefore simply psychologically shutting down the body. Every athlete has their own ability to push through physical stress and tiredness and while this is the case, the study did not come up with measurements, whether it is heart rate or muscle strength/output or even breathing levels that could physiologically and biologically tell when a person is physically exhausted.
