One World, Many Colors

Racism is something we've all witnessed. Everyday blacks are discriminated against by other cultures and races for several different reasons. Racism and discrimination is not something new, it has actually been a disastrous issue since the 16th century. Racial discrimination is an ongoing human judgment that people can't really stop. " To be black and interact with the police is a scary thing"says Akinsiku in his "The Price of Blackness" article. That saying speaks it all, that a black person is being treated differently than white people , just because he belong to a race that has been mistreated since the past. As known, police and the law should play justice and equality in the society, but even they're being injustice to African/American people, by not treating them equally and providing them with security as provided to others. In order to solve racial discrimination, society must first break down the causes of this problem. People must further understand why humans of a different race feel the need to racially discriminate against minorities. Three causes that stand out are superiority, stereotyping, and fear of the unknown. Akinsiku mentions the fatal shooting of the unarmed black teenager Michael Brown on Saturday by a police officer in St.Louis , and has been left dead on the street. Isn't that enough? Where is humanity? This story is more than enough for people to start appreciating and accepting others, and to be humans for once. It's devastating to hear such gloomy stories, where families are left suffering.
Studies have shown that African Americans have higher rate of bullying. Bullying have led to depression, mental problems, and suicide. The fear and shame that Akinsiku had felt when he passes by a police officer, and secure his status as one of the good ones by a plastic ID card, is also a form of bullying. For example, there was a girl named Rebecca back in my town in England, who was bullied every single day, that she feared going to school.
