The underlying issue that plagues the universal acceptance of this vaccine is the lack of knowledge that the general public has in regards to HPV and the HPV vaccine itself. Many people's knowledge is insufficient to make a decision about the vaccination and they do not feel they are able to make an educated choice. (Preventive Medicine) .
             An interesting concern among mothers who are deciding to vaccinate their children revolves around the fact that they are vaccinating for a sexually transmitted infection. Often, parents do not believe that their children need this vaccine until their child becomes sexually active, which is not the case. There is also a presumed concern about the HPV vaccination leading to sexual disinhibition among adolescents, initiating sexual activity at a younger age or engaging in unprotected sex. Many studies, in both the US and the UK, have found that young women did not engage in riskier sexual behavior post-vaccination when compared to unvaccinated women. Moreover, women who received at least one dose of the vaccination recognized the need for safer ongoing sexual behavior post-vaccination. (Preventive Medicine) .
             Safety issues are concerns with all vaccinations theses days. New stories and published articles contribute to these issues by providing misleading information about vaccinations leading to severe adverse health effects. Many large-scale studies on the safety of the HPV vaccination have been published. These studies show that there are few, if any severe health risks associated with the HPV vaccine and they are no different than the risks for other vaccines. (Preventive Medicine). .
             COMPULSORY HPV VACCINATION.
             Although no federal law exists, all 50 states require vaccinations for children entering public school. The Center for Disease Control estimates that 732,000 children were saved from death and 322 million cases of childhood disease were prevented between 1994 and 2014 due to vaccinations (ProCon).
