The First Letter to the Corinthians

He also goes on to prove that his happened by mentioning how there were witnesses to the event. Paul writes, "After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then all of the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time" (5-8). By writing this in the chapter, Paul felt that he reiterated the fact that Jesus did actually resurrect and it was not made up. .
Not only did Paul see his body in full come back to life, but so did the apostles and apparently over 500 witnesses. So for the question of if Jesus rose from the dead or not, that should all be pushed aside because it did happen and there are witnesses to prove it. Paul believes that for the people of Corinth this should not have been the first time hearing this because this whole event was retold in the Gospel of John in John 20. The first ten lines discuss the empty tomb where Jesus' linens lied but there was no sign of Jesus. The apostles believed that this was his resurrection because to them, they knew that Christ died for their sins and that on the third day of his died, he would rise again. Just like the believed, Jesus did rise from the dead, and John expresses this in the Gospel, saying "On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, 'Peace be with you."(John 20:19). The story of his resurrection was well documented and Paul had to reiterate to the people who now questioned the idea of resurrection. Paul saw Jesus himself, so by the grace of God he was able to spread the word to the gospel, which the people of Corinth believed considering he managed to convert them over to Christianity. But now people were starting to question whether this in fact happened, so Paul asserted the truth with his writings.
