Arguments on Consumption of GMO's

Stores like Wal-Mart are already selling Monsanto's sweet corn that was genetically engineered to contain an insecticide, but does consumers know this? It is hard to tell whether the corns are carrying insecticide by just looking at the corns, however, with label it can be more easily determined. Consumers should not be in a situation like this where they are eating corn that has been modified to produce pesticides in its own tissues, it should not be sold or consumed without labels.
When did genetically modified corn start to appear in our market? It all started when Russian scientist Andrei Belozersky began working on separating the DNA structure, and in a court case of 1980, the first genetically modified organism patent was issued. Genetically modified products began to hit the grocery shelves around the mid-1990s, because genetically modified products were made to last longer on the shelf than natural grown products (Feight). This means that there would be an increase in food production, in other words an increase in yield or production of foods. Nevertheless, how did such a potential benefit process became such hazardous products that need labeling?.
In a report A comparison of the effects of three genetically modified corn varieties on mammalian health, a blood and organ system analysis data were shown from the experiment with genetically modified corn (NK 603, MON 810, MON 863) fed rats. The study was completed in about 90 days with a sample of about 10 rats. These modified corns are also present in foods that consumed around the world. NK 603 modified to be tolerant to herbicide like Roundup. MON 810 and MON 863 are design to combine two different insecticides used Bt toxins. Genetically modified corn fed rats were compared to the control groups (parental non genetically modified equivalent), followed by a comparison of six reference groups (which consumed a variety of other non-genetically modified corn).
