Resume Analysis

Use clear language, avoid using any abbreviations, and focus on nouns because when a recruiter searches through their databases, the keywords they are entering are usually nouns (Jamieson, 2003).
Even though the video resume may not be widely accepted in a professional field such as MIS, it is by far the newest and boldest way of creating a resume. While video resumes have been used before, they were mainly used by athletes and performers in order to showcase their talents. However, with the popularity of streaming video on the internet, it was only a matter of time before the idea of a short, taped presentation of oneself, taking the form of an interview or personal statement gained popularity as well. The video resume gives the applicant the opportunity to introduce himself/herself, discuss accomplishments, and present why he/she would be an asset to the company. Employers are also beginning to notice the potential of the video resume because it allows them to see something besides the ordinary content of a traditional paper resume. In order for an applicant to prepare a video resume, they must not only have the knowledge to create one, but the equipment as well. Usually the applicant will first record the presentation on a tape such as a Mini-DV, VHS, or so on. They will then have to convert the tape into a data file in either Real Video, Windows Media, or QuickTime format. Lastly, the applicant must send the video resume to the employer either by e-mail, or on a compact disk. The applicant can also host the video resume on a website. Drawbacks to the video resume are the employer must have a video player such Real Video, Windows Media, or QuickTime, depending on which format the applicant used to encode the original tape. The employer must also have a sound card as well as a set of speakers in order to hear the presentation. In contrast, these drawbacks may be considered minor to anyone who wants to make a more direct impression on a potential employer.
