Nursing Scope of Practice

Section one of this excerpt talks about the fact that one may not practice as a registered nurse unless they are licensed or otherwise authorized ("Public Health Code (Excerpt) Act 368 of 1978", 1978). The second section states that only those who have earned or are authorized to have the title, letters, or a combination of both such as: R.N., L.P.N., and nurse midwife may use them with their name ("Public Health Code (Excerpt) Act 368 of 1978", 1978). These two sections in this excerpt basically just touch on that one must become licensed before practicing as a registered nurse and that it is considered fraudulent to use titles with your name that you are not qualified to have.
Excerpt 333.17212 talks about the ability of registered nurses to order, receive, or dispense complimentary starter dose drugs. The excerpt also contains two sections that both pertain to the registered nurse. Section one explains the fact that a physician may assign to a registered nurse in writing an order, receipt, or even dispense a free sample of a pharmaceutical drug as long as it is not categorized as a controlled substance ("Public Health Code (Excerpt) Act 368 of 1978", 1978). If this should occur both the register nurse and the physician's name should be recorded, or indicated in some way connected with each ordering, receipt, or dispensing for documentation purposes ("Public Health Code (Excerpt) Act 368 of 1978", 1978). Section two allows pharmaceutical manufacturers or wholesale distributors to give free samples of drugs to registered nurses ("Public Health Code (Excerpt) Act 368 of 1978", 1978). These sections outline for register nurses who they are able to receive complimentary starter doses from and how they should go about documenting the receipt of the complimentary starter dose.
Michigan Board of Nursing Administrative Rules.
According to excerpt 338.10104 of the Board of Nursing General Rules, registered nurses who delegate any kind of nursing act, function, or task must determine whether they are in the registered nurse's scope of practice that is being delegated too (1989).
