Kristallnacht - Acts of Horror and Violence

Nazis began to remove the social rights of Jews and other party enemies soon after Hitler became Chancellor in January of 1933. As the period of Kristallnacht approached, the Jewish public was getting more of their rights taken away. In the first half of 1938, several laws were passed limiting Jewish financial activity and professional opportunities. Jewish lawyers and doctors were barred from practice and reduced to acting as legal consultants or nurses to other Jews. The specialized authorizations of salesmen were revoked. Storekeepers and artists were to be barred from any commercial movement. Jewish leaseholders were kicked out, and those who owned property were forced to sell. In July of 1938, a law was passed requiring all Jews to carry identification cards. .
Kristallnacht was a very important point in the Holocaust. The actions leading up to Kristallnacht began when Hitler came to control. He used the Jewish people as a scapegoat for the rest of Germany. He convinced the general public of Germany that the Jews were a menace and had to be destroyed. "The Nazis believed that Jews- and many other groups, including the Sinti and Roma (sometimes called "Gypsies"), Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, and physically and mentally disabled individuals- were inferior to "Aryans"."(Deem, 6) It is common information that the Nazis wanted to be on top, but realized early on that Jews were better than them. The Jews were a huge community, had the needed capital to establish stores, and were clever enough to flourish in their business. For the average Nazi Kristallnacht was an opportunity to growth up in the social order, and to increase power and control over a large portion of society. The occasion of the Holocaust was unavoidable. .
The shooting of Ernst vom Rath only activated an event that was bound to take place. "In Germany, the morning newspapers on November 8 denounce the Jewish people as murderers.
