The Bellas' leader, Beca Mitchell (Anna Kendrick), makes a deal to allow the Bellas be reinstated if they win the Worlds a cappella tournament which is dominated by the European champions, a German group of professionals in a cappella (Das Sound Machine or DSM). So, in the movie, you will notice some discriminating lines stated by a cappella competition commentator, John Smith (John Michael Higgins) about the female gender. The first line is, ". . . the truth is your just women, and you're all be pregnant soon." This line was uttered by John to the Bellas trying to make them accept that their suspended and just be okay to stop competing because their "just women", whatever they do, in the end, they will just eventually get pregnant and be like a typical housewife. This statement is a perfect doorway for gender roles and gender discrimination to enter. In traditional gender roles, women are expected to stay in the house doing household chores, taking care of the kids and doing some other stuffs. Undoubtedly women have made remarkable treads towards equality in recent decades. Women today are already seen in firms, getting jobs in the workforce. Private and public companies have begun to realize that the female population is a valuable labor resource. They have also now positions in the government departments however; we still occupy a society in which the worth of women is measured in their physical appearance and not by their intellectual contribution or talents which is why the statement of John to the Bellas was perceived as discriminating invoice for women because not all women will end up being pregnant and be whatever the society expect them to be. Women can also do what men can do. They can do tasks just as well as their male counterparts and have earnings equal or above their peers. .
In the movie, the Bellas were invited to a gig. They put on a performance similar to DSM as a warm-up for the Worlds but it end up as a total disaster.
