Voluntary High School Military Training in Thailand

Amazingly, based on Matichon Online, on 17th April 2015, it has been recently reported that the proportion of the volunteer soldiers of this year, 2015, has a lot risen by rocketing to 43.72% of the whole conscripted males. What the armed forces can do to get the most expected proportion is to limit or to control the number of the high school boy students who fancy enrolling in the training each year. We can see that the ratio of the conscripted men out of the overall number each year is not at a serious level, plus high percentage of men volunteer themselves. So, the proposal to abolish the training may be too acute if we take a close look at the statistics, and the resolution that has been suggested. .
There is a rumor that the armed forces have initiated the idea to abolish the training to see if the high school boy students are patriots by nature and to prove that they hold true to the purpose of the training by not viewing it as a way to avoid the military screening like nowadays. If so, the number of them should remain the same. The armed forces seem to complain of inadequately recruiting professionals to develop their proficiency as fewer educated men are called up. But it may be inappropriate and illogical to think so because the high school military training was originally set up by the armed forces themselves, especially by the ground force. The training was initiated to promote the reserve force, the registered soldiers to be called up for service in the future, among young Thai males. Those students that join the training should not be blamed with such a distinguishing remark accusing them of avoiding the recruitment. If they avoid the recruitment for real, they do it legally and openly by following the path that is paved by laws and regulations. Additionally, the armed forces are recommended to encourage general young men to be volunteer soldiers if they want to attract more people to serve their sectors.
