Landing Craft Unit

Culture shock can be defined as an emotional and behavioral reaction to living or working in another culture. People are different therefore; each person will react differently to culture shock. Generally, there are four accepted stages of culture shock: .
             1. Honeymoon.
             2. Rejection. .
             3. Adjustment.
             4. Recovery.
During the honeymoon stage you are exposed to your new environment everything is new, and you are excited. However, when this stage of excitement is over people can slip into state of depression. Robert Kohl's who developed a survival kit for overseas living believes that after the honeymoon stage is over most people experience culture shock. He believes that this is further characterized by a person's inability to work effectively (Ferguson 5). .
This leads us to the second variable of job performance, which is a dependent variable. Job performance is a major problem for students, military personnel, and anyone living overseas for the first time. If a student is not able work effectively his/her grades will suffer. However, if military personnel suffer the inability to work effectively, their ineffectiveness could result in serious damage to equipment or loss of life.
The Navy has moved into the world of technology, and in order to operate the high tech equipment in the Navy, men and women must be trained. Navy training follows this course of action; after completing boot camp they are sent to technical schools before going to their first duty station. Some of the schools last a year or more, and are very technical in nature. They are trained in, troubleshooting, and repairing everything form advanced electronics on fighter jets to nuclear reactors aboard ships and submarines. Therefore, if you have a military man or women who slips into depression and they do not perform their job well. They could in fact cause damage to a nuclear reactor, or to a fighter jet. I am not trying to scare anyone, because the Navy does have checks, and balances.
