Calegero, "C" was what his friends called him, was different from everyone else and was in conflict with himself and his friends because he liked a girl that was African American. Just like in previous times, interracial relationships weren't excepted. What was most inspiring was that even though his friends gave him slack about him not hating African-Americans he still decided to date the girl despite their ethnic differences. Challengers courage and his strength to not conform to then societies of how relationships should be shows though though you may be different from others, you can still learn and be able to love and cherish one another.
Have you ever liked someone that who not your race? Were you afraid to tell the person you like, your friends, or even your family members because you were afraid that they would judge you? In today's society, there are a vast number of people who feel this way due to the negative stigma associated with interracial dating. The negative stigma comes from the history of slavery and segregation that African Americans as well as other minorities like the have faced over many decades and continue to face at this present time. Not only have African Americans faced segregation, the Jewish community also faced discrimination from the Germans, who wanted to get ride of them through genocide, which is killing an entire race making them non-existent. Interracial relationships will always be an ongoing dilemma, when it comes to being in an interracial marriage, to raising children who are biracial or trying to reach out to others from different ethnic backgrounds in the community that you live in. Being able to love someone with a different ethnic background from yours will always challenge people who are racist, or people who are biased towards interracial relationships. People who are against interracial relationships should honor interracial romance.
