Biography of Eli Whitney


Then after years of studying Whitney graduated in 1792. Once he had graduated from Yale, Whitney had decided that he wanted to continue the field of law and become a lawyer, just as his parents wished. Before long there was a private school in Georgia that had offered him a job as a tutor and at the same time he could continue to study law to become teacher. This was a perfect opportunity for Whitney and he would have been a fool if he had not accepted the job. He decided that he would travel to Georgia by ship because at this time in history there were no railroads, do boats were the best option. While he embarked on his trip he met the wife of the ever so important Nathanial Greene, who was an important war general of the American Revolution. Once they arrived to their destination Whitney had found out that the job that was offered to him would only pay about as much as he expected. Because of this he did not accept the job but instead Mrs. Greene told him that he could live at their house until he had found a new job. While he was at Mrs. Greene's house Whitney had been told about the problem of not being able to separate the cotton and its seeds easily. After hearing about this he had decided to construct a machine that would be able to separate the cotton and its seeds. .
             After a long time of working, Whitney had finally perfected his idea and he had invented the cotton gin. Word quickly spread around that there was a machine that could separate cotton and is seeds. Whitney from then on became famous almost overnight because what he had done was so significant. Everywhere that he had gone Whitney had inspired everyone because he made them believe that they could do what they wanted to do. He made inventors believe that they could invent what many people thought was impossible. The entire country was changed because of him and he had done something that would later change the country forever.
