12-Steps Attendance Paper

Another positive reaction that I saw at these meetings is that there are mentors there to help the "newbies" or the younger ones that are just coming for the first time. .
Some negative reactions that I took away from the meetings is just being sad and hearing what these individuals have gone through and had to deal with that made them become an addict in the first place. It gives you a negative feeling inside and makes you feel bad for these individuals. Other than these feelings I didn't really have anything negative to say about the meetings. I think going to these meetings is definitely the first step in the right direction to get the help that these individuals need or want. .
During this meeting you definitely see the 12 step approach being used. With Alcoholics Anonymous and even Narcotics Anonymous, these programs can be categorized as Social learning programs. If it's your first time attending an AA or NA meeting you can learn from others. You can see what helps them and what doesn't help them. You can even see where someone has started and where they are right now. The first step of the 12-step is "that we have admitted that we are powerless over our addiction and that our lives have become unimaginable[ CITATION Mul10 l 1033 ]." Being able to admit that there is a problem and seeking help is something that you see from every single person that comes into the meetings. They have admitted they have a problem and need help. This also goes along with the 3rd step of the 12- step program, which is "You have made a decision to turn your will and lives over to the care of god as we understand god [ CITATION Mul10 l 1033 ]." Another thing that I saw with this approach was there being sponsor there for new members. "Sponsors are members that have been clean and sober for substantial periods and are willing to work directly with new members in a mentoring or "coaching" style[ CITATION Wal121 l 1033 ].
