The governments in both documents could create and arm navy and the army. The problem was the source of money to set up the army (Dougherty, 2006).
There are differences between the articles of confederation and The Constitution. Under the Articles of the Confederation, the state legislature appointed the Congress. On The Constitution, the people vote for the member of the House who would represent them. Previously, the Senators were selected by the legislature. This has changed, and the people vote for the Senators. The key difference between the Articles of Confederation and The Constitution is the way structure of the Legislature. In the Articles, the Legislature was established as a unicameral legislature, which was referred to as the Congress. In The Constitution, the legislature was established as bicameral. The bicameral legislature is into, the upper house, the Senate, and the lower house the House of Representatives. Each state wanted to be represented with different number of representatives who were to be selected in a different method. On the other hand, all the states were represented in the same way under the Articles of Confederation (Johnson, 2003).
Each state could send between two and seven delegates to the Congress under the Articles of Confederation. Under The Constitution, the each state sent 2 members in the Senate and a single representative in the House of representative per 30000 people. The two houses that are in place today was formed by the Connecticut Compromise to resolve the issue of representation.
The Article of Confederation and The Constitution have strengths and weaknesses. In the strength, the Article of Confederation has a detail of the basic principles that made possible negotiations that were peaceful among members of the members of the Great Britain and the members of the Continental Congress. Article of Confederation enhanced the smooth payment debt incurred during the war.
