What is Hip Hop

             But still, what is hip hop? Now that we have the history, let us look at what hip hop consist of. The art form of hip hop consist of deejaying (the cutting and scratching of records), emceeing/rapping, break dancing, and grafitti art. Deejaying is the manipulation of a record over a particular groove in order to produce strange sounds. It was invented by either Grand Master Flash or Grand Wizard Theodore, who were both DJs from the Bronx. Rapping is saying rhymes to the beat of music. It was originally called emceeing. Rap draws its roots from the Jamaican art known as toasting, along with old "dozens" rhymes and jail house jargon passed throughout the years. And made popular by Black activist. Break dancing is an acrobatic style of dance hich includes head spins, back spins, and flairs. Its roots come from the African martial arts form known as capoeta. The inventor or inventors of break dancing is unknown, however groups like the B-Boys and the original members of the Zulu Nation are credited for making it popular. At the same time, another style of hip hop dance called "pop locking" surfaced. This style of dance included strutting, moon-walking, waving, and angular, robot-like contortions of the body. Grafitti art is a form of freestyle art written or drawn on concrete building, streets, sidewalks, etc . The originator of grafitti is also unknown.
             It is true that hip hop is all of these things, but it is not limited to them. Hip hop is more that just music and dancing. It is a culture for a movement of revolution. The clothes, the language, the attitude, the actions, the way one walks, talks, and looks are all part of the hip hop culture. And hip hop is not exclusive to African-Americans either. It along with its music are colorless. The clothes and dress of hip hop is very urban and trendy and it is constantly changing.
