Slavery in Eastern Pennsylvania


They were not Christian Indians and lived as whites at Ghadenhutten. They eventually got tired of loving the Movarian life and went to Wyoming Valley, also known as the Peace Valley. When the French and English War started they tried to stay natural but then became a French-Indian warrior and were out to kill whites, while the Iroguois sided with the English. Teedyuscung was most respected among eastern Delawares. They built log cabins for the white men and lived a white man world but one night Teedyuscung's house was burned down along with the Delaware village and the "Iroquois were ones who burned his settlement". By the end of1763, no white or Indian men remained alive in Wyoming Valley.
             Tom Quick was a strong, agile, cunny white man who lived among Native Americans. His closest friend was Delaware chief's son, Mushwink. He learned the native ways with his Dutch family. On October 11 there was the raid of Susquehanna where they killed many. Tom joined a company of militia in Milford. They were paid $6 a month and $1 per use of a musket. Tom's father was shot and died in February and his childhood friend scalped his father. From there on forward it was Tom's passion and obsession to hunt the Delaware. He was known as the most Indian killer. He would lure in people from the Delaware tribe into his home and then kill them in their sleep. Quick was captured 5 times and managed to escape every time. Mushwink's young warriors fled out to track Tom and bring back his sclap. Tom managed to kill two and sent back one to face humiliation. On the three men's canoe, Tom found his fathers Meerschaum Pipe which was engraved 1724. When the French surrendered in 1763 but that didn't stop Tom from wanting revenge. Tom's father's killer later met up with Tom where he proved he had killed Tom's father. Tom told him to get out and then shot him, which then Tom was arrested for. There was nothing but celebration amongst his town for Tom killing his fathers killer and was not kept for murder.
