1. Messianic figures
The two can both be seen as messianic figures because of they way they are in their stories. I think that Jim is more messianic in the end of his story than Holden is at the end of "The Catcher in the Rye." ... Jim is definitely messianic when it comes to people following or looking up to him. ... Jim on the other hand doesn't live until the end of the story, but after his death people all over look up to him for what happened and that makes him the more messianic figure. ...
