The assignment was incredibly challenging to get a ballet or pointe routine because there was none.
Beyond The First Page, choreographed by Madeline Brown, I felt was overall a unique piece. I felt this was closest to being ballet so I decided to pick this one as my ballet pick. The quality of the technique was overall fairly strong; I didn't see any common technical errors that were not choreographed into the dance. However in the beginning and in the end I noticed that the counts of the dancers were not coincided, they were not dancing together as one, and I think that is because the only beat or rhythm that was given to them was the occasional heartbeat, other than that it was silent which makes it very challenging to stay on count. The story the choreographer was trying to convey I think had to do with looking deeper into someone, getting to know them beyond "the first page" beyond the "skin". The color of the costumes and the lighting being red along with the heartbeat made me think of a heart so maybe it had to do with love.
When Thoughts Collide, choreographed by Jake Henke, watching the dance overall the message or story was undistinguishable until the end. I decided to pick this as my modern/ contemporary piece. The technique I felt was very strong in this dance. The story I thought the choreographer was trying to convey was the collision of races or genders or something along the lines of that. The dancers started out in different colors, some were wearing blue, some wearing black, and some wearing grey. It was unclear what the colors meant but at the end when the colors became one, everything became one. Their thoughts, or beliefs or feelings collided and became one. I really liked this piece.
Be the Change, choreographed by Tracy Dupree, I instantly loved. I love tap and I also loved the message you portrayed in the dance. The technique was overall impressive.
