Women in Modern Society

Dines claims "They represent images of contemporary idealized femininity-in a word, hot-that are held up for women, especially young women, to emulate" (Dines). You can not help but feel insecure next to the one-hundred and fifteen pound blonde with long legs and blue eyes. But why? Why do I feel insecure around someone who looks like that? I have just as much to offer. I might not be one-hundred and fifteen pounds, I am one-fifty-five, but that is just not acceptable to most men or anyone my age. That is how society has shaped us, to be more involved in our looks than our own well-being. How can you look good if you don not even feel good about yourself? Dines gives examples from the HBO series Sex and the City and points out "In their desire to get a man and keep him, they were willing to do anything, even if they felt uncomfortable" (Dines). She also claims "The idea that these women are independent is undetermined by their dependency on men and male approval" (Dines). Approval from anyone is important to a person but approval from others about yourself and how you look and feel is not acceptable to me. There are not many ways to work around it because we are all looking for approval from someone or something. Some of us just do not get that approval and it is others who do, that we envy or make our role model to how we should be or look. .
The approval factor comes into play with me every morning. I wake up at 9:00. Take a shower, when I get out it is already 9:30. Blow-dry my hair, there went another 8 minuets, then attempt to straighten my naturally curly portage hair. It is no joke when people say that time flies. Because after I have finished one of the longest processes of my life it is already 10:15. Then the make-up. I can not even go into to detail how much I do with my make-up. I wish I could hire someone to do it all for me and then get me places on time.
