The environment became less and less hygienic with time. This compromised the health of people. Diseases began to thrive and people had no choice but to live amongst rubbish in order to earn a living. .
2. Empowerment accelerates a variety of positive outcomes, not only in the Victorian context, but in life as a whole. The empowering of the middle class gave the population a new power and purpose; this power was obtained by their place in society amplifying and the middle class no longer depending on their riches or land that they owned, but rather by their new places in society, as business men, traders, and entrepreneurs. It allowed them to be optimists and pursue anything they set their minds to. This was evident in their enthusiasm to achieve change in the voting system which was done by consistent campaigning. Their new purpose led to patriotism and more respect for the crown, which encouraged these middle class patriots to serve in the military and air force.
Victorians believed that anything could be attained by working hard and ensuring that one is self sufficient, and through continuous strife, one can attain anything regardless of the background he comes from. They also believed that the population that remained poor only had themselves to blame and it was due to their negligence and laziness that they did not climb up the economic ladder. However, the middle class' downside was that they became self centred and saw themselves as superior. They treated the lower class as inferior to them and forgot that they were once the lower class as well. They had reason to be proud of their accomplishment, and success, but one should never celebrate his accomplishment by criticizing or treating those who are less fortunate badly.
A strict moral code ruled Victorians; this code highlighted the importance of religion, the way to present oneself, and the way to behave in public and various other places.
