This was one of the early mechanisms that Sophn suggests that essentially created the need for a formal court system (Soph, 2011). .
A conflict between citizens is nothing that is out of the ordinary in American Society. There has been conflict in America amongst citizens that can be traced back all the way to when America was first created (ushistory.org). This stands true, as the blueprint to a court system was included in the American Constitution. As Sophn stated before with the increase of conflict, came the need of a court system to formally resolve these conflicts. One example of conflict between citizens that stands out in recent history is the events of the Boston marathon bombing. The Boston Marathon Bombing occurred on April 15th, 2013. On this day Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, placed two pressure cooker bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon where he detonated them killing two people while injuring dozens of other bystanders (Bigman, 2013). .
After Tsarnaev was finally caught, the issue was then sent to the courts so that this conflict could be resolved. In an article by Russell Goldman, it is stated that Tsarnaev's acts sent him through the court system where he received an "all-star like defense team" (Goldman, 2013). While defense attorneys and prosecutors are a bit of a different topic, it is still apparent that Tsarnaev's conflict towards other citizens was sent to the court so that a resolution could be made. This conflict between citizens contributes to the courts because it gives them "fuel" for the operations of courts. Without conflict there would be no need for courts seeing that there would be no resolutions to be made. Another example of how conflict between citizens can contribute to the courts is events that occurred in the court case Thurman v. The city of Torrington. In this situation a young lady by the name of Tracey Thurman was in an abusive relationship with her estranged husband named Charles Thurman.
