Herodotus and Thucydides - Greek Historians

He interviewed the military and political leaders and he also traveled to the war zones to observe the battles for himself. He was the first to analyze human behavior in wartime. Thucydides' approach to writing history was far more different than Herodotus'. Thucydides only wrote about events that occurred during his lifetime that he could verify through examination of written records and eyewitness accounts. Thucydides tried to be as accurate as possible and didn't care about proving a moral point, he just reported the facts as the happened. On the other hand, Herodotus was more of an entertainer, he would sensationalize his stories to make them sound more interesting. Both greek historians, Herodotus and Thucydides, played an important role in ancient history and are known for being the first people ever to record history as it occurred. However, their approaches to writing history and being a historian differ.
Herodotus is the first historian to record the events of the Persian Wars. The Persian War was a war between Greece and Persia. The Persian War is a remarkable event in history for the Greeks. The Persian Wars came about for many different reasons. A reason for the cause of the Persian War was the persian expansion into Asia Minor, bringing Ionian greeks under their control. The Ionian greeks revolted against the king, Darius. This revolt was easily crushed by Darius and he retaliates against Athens by sending troops to Marathon. The Athenians, along with some allies, defeated Darius and his army sending them back to Persia. Darius dies before he could lead another invasion and his son Xerxes succeeded him and is appointed as king.
Another reason for the cause of the Persian Wars was the invasion of Xerxes. Xerxes was Darius's son who was the next heir to the throne. The king of Persia wanted to fulfil his dads dream of conquering the Greeks. Xerxes assembled the largest army and navy the world had ever seen and set out to Hellespont, between Asia Minor and Europe.
