The Basics of Physical Therapy

What does this mean? The patient is bound to have future strokes and can suffer from long term back pain. This pain starts in the neck and travels down the cervical, thoracic, lumbar sacrum and coccyx. That is a huge injury. According to Dr. Ernst, Edzard (MD) Doctor of Neuroscience, "Chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine can produce dissections of the cranial and cervical segments of the vertebral and carotid arteries. Given the popularity of chiropractic treatment, the incidence of this phenomenon is most likely underreported. These arterial injuries can be severe, producing adverse neurological sequelae and even death (including 31% of patients in this series). Consequently, aggressive endovascular and surgical techniques may be required to restore vessel patency and to preserve neurological function.".
Although many people take the chiropractic solution for their pain, the healthiest solution for fixing their injury is physical therapy. Injuries can occur throughout the body. They can occur in the arm, shoulder, neck, mid-section, legs, and ankles. Why is it so important to catch this early? Because not catching it early before it progresses into something worse can lead to further injury and a possible disability. For example, if someone has a hard time bending over to pick something up off the ground because of a hip displacement, this could be due to bad discs in the lower lumbar or their sacrum. People who suffer from back problems tend to ignore the problem or they refuse to get it checked. These people have the state of mind, "I don't have time to go to physical therapy because I have to go to work. It will get better soon enough. Or they go to their primary physician, and when physical therapy is suggested they ask for pills to dull the pain.
The problem with dulling the pain with major injuries (such as a back injury) is that the pain never leaves. "Some of the top pain killers taken to dull the pain on record right now is Vicodin, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Percocet, and Morphine," according to Vaughn Aubuchon.
