Strategic Changes in the NBA

What if we only reset the clock to 14 seconds, instead of restoring to a full 24 seconds? Now players that can rebound the ball and attack the basket again become more valuable. Power Forwards again could be powerful and less finesse. That would trickle down into the smaller positions and balance the skill-sets across the board. It would speed up the game a little bit, it will increase shot attempts, and increase scoring while creating important physical contact. So that is a tweak to the game that could influence how the game is won. Another adjustment that has to be made is how the league allows teams to profit from losing. .
One emotion that is coveted in professional sports is hope. Somewhere in that spin of possibilities and high ceilings we begin to covet what is possible over what we know already exist. Every year all the NBA teams assemble and hold an amateur draft. All American individuals that have been graduated from high school for more than 1 year and foreign born equivalents that have registered for selection are distributed to the league. Currently the system says the bottom 14 teams have a number of chances to win the 1st thru 14th pick. The top 16 teams are then bracketed in by how they finish the playoffs. But is that really fair? Do we allow the rich to win the lottery? In order to encourage winning, and flatten the chances out for star talents to go to winning franchises instead of wasting valuable years of their lives on teams looking to make a profit and not the playoffs, why not let everyone have a chance at all the picks? The current system was put in place to spread talent to lower market teams. Unfortunately, the same franchises return to the bottom year after year. But, there are no longer struggling teams. The league is actually at a surplus, signing a mega television deal this past year. Everyone is waiting for the upcoming negotiations with the players union where it is expected that the salary cap could go up by as much as 20 million dollars a year.
