The Injustice of Human Trafficking

Dealing with human trafficking you can get a sentence from one to fifteen years. The amount of years served in prison depends of the factors of the certain case. The offender can be charged with either sex trafficking or labor trafficking, which are the two most severe forms of trafficking. With sex trafficking you usually get a harder sentence that labor trafficking because there usually more severe. Also, the ways that the cases may very is if the offender had more than one victim or if they had a prior offense. Also it depends on the amount of time that the victim was held under the certain trafficking situation. If the person was under the age of 18 then you will receive more years and served with an aggravated offense. The reason that the offender would get charged with an aggravated offense is because they are under the age of 18 and they are a minor. Another thing that the offender will be classified under is a sex offender. Anyone else involved in the entire human trafficking business will also be charged to. "Whoever, while acting other than as a prostitute or patron, intentionally does any of the following may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 20 years or to payment of a fine of not more than $50,000."(www.endvawnow.org). .
Many offenders be charged with prison time of a large fine. The fines that the offenders or anyone else involved in the trafficking business can receive vary from the amount of $20,000 to even 1 million dollars. The reason why I believe the human trafficking business is unjust in our criminal system is because of many cases that have occurred and the results of them. A human trafficker can get up to a year in prison for committing modern day slavery. Where is the justice for that? You're taking someone's freedom away and their rights and the way you pay for it is one year in prison. You're also mentally and physically messing with the victim's lives that will always take a toll of them.
