Adjustment Case Study

The importance of having people around you that care and will help get through loss is how you can begin to heal the mind and soul. No one is expected to overcome the feeling of despair and hurt when losing someone overnight. Losing someone close to you takes time, there is a void in your life. We have to begin to understand that life is only but a vapor, it is only present for a moment then it disappears. .
The second article I chose about a family ending up homeless after starting a business then when the recession hit, they lost everything but not each other. This story begins with Franklin Gilliard and his wife, a teacher's aide named Sherry started their own driving school. The couple worked to keep the household running though despite all of their efforts, they started getting deeper in bills. They would even try to avoid the bill collectors or anyone that would contact them about bills. The routine was to look outside before leaving their house every morning. It was not good at all looking over your shoulders every day, watching the door to hear if someone would come knocking to take a vehicle away. Then you will not answer the phone thinking that every call is a bill collector wanting money. Sherry would even look at tents for all of them to live in and even with asking the bank to help with their mortgage did not get them out of debt. The family ended up homeless shortly after, living in a homeless shelter. Franklin is training to be a certified nursing assistant so he can take care of his family. Franklin and Sherry now have transitional housing and are working to find a permanent home. There were challenges that they both had to face with being homeless and not knowing if they were going to be out on the street. I believe that they did what they knew would help them at least have a roof over their heads. The adjustment of going from living in a house you are paying for and then living in a place you know does not feel safe or like a home can be stressful.
