Building a Casino in Grenada

What I meant is that, once a casino is introduced it would add to the country's Gross National Product (GNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Bear in mind with all the great benefits that comes with a casino it can also place and economic strain on the current businesses surrounding the casino. Professor Robert Goodman, in his study entitled, "Legalize Gambling as a Strategy for Economic Development", describes the effects of gambling on local businesses. Consumers can change their spending patterns to the casino that would happen to be owned by outside investors hence locally owned businesses would suffer or go bankrupt as a result. For example if residents used to spend their money in local restaurants now spend their money in casinos hence no net economic benefit would be surfaced from the casino. Also most of casino products are bought outside of the country since locally it is not available. Professor Goodman further states, "that buildings surrounding casinos reduces property value due to the unhealthy environment that casino portrays for example, because of the growth of crime in these areas. "Casinos are not an economic engine, but a vacuum cleaner. . Legalized casino gambling is a regressive tax on the poor," he said, adding that the thought of a large amount of money is too tempting to people who have little (Episcopal Bishop Douglas Fisher, 2014)." .
We are quite clear and aware of the sinful acts our people do get their selves involved in but would casino gambling make our country better or add to our social issues? There are many social problems we would face such as crime, prostitution, personal bankruptcy, higher suicides rates and family disturbances including child abuse and neglect just to name a few. What would indeed happen with a casino in Grenada, would lead to a greater severity of the social problems. Take for example our neighboring isle Trinidad with an article published in 2009 on casino gambling where the government in 2006 clearly stated "it is moving to eliminate the entire system.
