Climate Change in Cambodia


This leaves Cambodia deprived of healthy water, food, and a strong economy. Another example of how disrupted ecosystems are affecting Cambodia is the lack of plant life because of global warming. This takes away from the scattered communities of Cambodia and forces them to turn on each other to survive. Cambodia is an agrarian country with over 80% of its population living in rural regions and as plant life decreases the amount of arable land goes down which is something that Cambodian communities rely on. Without enough arable land to share between everyone character displacement takes effect and forces people to move to new environments and land. .
             Often, there is no where for these people to go causing a rise in death rate and homeless families in Cambodia. To solve this Cambodia would have to adapt to become a more urban region (Wight). The Chinese see the seriousness of the situation and feel an urgency to help. They have begun to restore Cambodia's resources and provide supplies to counter the effects forcing people out of their homes. Cambodia's senior officials are meeting on the issues of their environment researching and energy to work with China and begin to solve this issue on their own (Belford). The Cambodian government has combined with private organizations to begin to lower the bad effects of global warming and lower the unpredictable climate itself. Scientifically a common solution to disrupted ecosystems in the adding of invasive species to level out what is missing in the the energy pyramid. Cambodia has done little of this though due to the unseen effects of the concept and the expense that it would bring to its people (GCCA). Overall the disrupted ecosystems are mostly taking away from the supplies of Cambodia which indirectly affects other parts of their country.
             Flooding is a serious problem in Cambodia and has been rising in effect due to global warming. Climate change is affecting the sustainability of most developing countries.
