Power Battles in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Even though he has made an intriguing entrance on the mental ward he still has not faced the challenge that tries to cripple him. Since Nurse Ratched is another powerhouse figure in this story, she has an abundance of surprise to thwart McMurphy's plans. .
A struggle in which creates conflict within our dynamic character is his attempts to determine the most shortest way possible to leave the mental hospital and maybe attain a few knowledgeable things here and there. He is distinguished as a person who intends on satisfying his own desires within the ward. The main objective of his coming is to obtain the freedom outside the walls of the ward within the time period he is given. As he progresses within the ward, his attitudes are somehow alternated back and forth as to what his man goals are during his time with the patients. He begins to understand that the patients are held to this ward without an ounce of power to control their everyday actions and ability to make choices. His character begins to change when his focus starts to shift primarily towards the patients by using his own power to lead them. Mack could be viewed as Jesus Christ, for he will be the one to lead his disciples forward to the light of God in which will help them gain confidence to empower Nurse Ratched, the Devil whom plays deceit and insinuations to control them. Everything seemed good for McMurphy until he unearths the fact that Nurse Ratched is the only person in her ward to deem a person ready for release. What makes Mack even more ticked was when they were receiving their x-ray scans and Harding told him that many patients in this ward are voluntary acutes that can leave on their own free will while he is stuck. When he hears of this new information, he jolts up and hollered "are you bullshitting me!"(pg.194).
His selfishness has risen once again and took the place of his selflessness. He must now revise his actions within the ward to be released from the ward.
