The Use of Deadly Force

This was because of the use of deadly force by the RCMP. .
A Polish immigrant to Canada, Robert Dziekanski, was tasered numerous times by the RCMP at the Vancouver International Airport and had died due to this choice of force. There are several hours of surveillance footage that was recorded on the incident but had been erased by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). It was said that the police had tasered Robert due to his behavior and actions. Once this incident had occurred and made known to the public, many people had questions to why this tasering had occurred ("Video of YVR," 2008). .
Robert had landed at Vancouver International Airport and was there for a few hours before the tasering had occurred. Robert was from Poland and spoke absolutely no English and was apparently unable to contact his mother, who was at the airport but in a different area. This was why he had been there for quite some time ("Victim Calm Before," 2007). There were reports of Robert yelling and throwing things in front of the security that were present before police were called. A prime witness, Paul Pritchard, had stated once the police had arrived that, "they are all standing around him and they all look like they should be having a coffee and a cigarette" ("Victim Calm Before," 2007). He had also said later on that Robert had appeared quite calm and looking like "He's giving up. He's shrugging his shoulders and walking away," Paul said ("Victim Calm Before," 2007). Furthermore, he was known to be making no threats or emitting dangerous actions nor behaviors. This was when the police had taken the action of Robert walking away as a threat, thus, shooting him with the taser. It was said in the article that Robert was only tasered twice by the officers ("Victim Calm Before," 2007). The public do argue with officers that the taser shooting was not only twice, but rather five times according to the footage.
