The fall of Sparta was due to their eugenics system. Sparta was considered to have the strongest military in all of Greece. They trained men specifically for military and combat, where other countries assembled a military when it was needed, thus they used black smiths, farmers, and other men from a variety of occupations. The other militaries were not as strong as Sparta because they were not trained specifically for military whereas the Spartan men were trained just for Spartan military. Sparta was so focused on building up a strong military that they did not spend time building up a strong empire with the military. Most of Sparta was built on the backs of slaves and many of the jobs and daily responsibilities fell in the hands of slaves. This allowed for the Spartans to focus on building up a strong military force. In order to build a strong military, the elders would inspect new born babies, within 24 hours of birth. They would determine if the child would be strong enough to survive in Spartan society, if the elder inspected the child and came across any flaws the child would be abandoned or killed. At the age of seven Spartan boys were sent to Spartan boot camp where they began training for their career as a soldier. There were many boys who did not survive decreasing the population even more. The combination of killing infants and violent military training did not leave many options for healthy reproduction this causing many people to sleep with relatives which then led to off spring with more deformities. These factors caused a huge vicious cycle in Sparta causing them to kill off more infants and losing many young men to the military. This vicious cycle and not enough time spent on building up an empire with the military is the cause of the fall of the Spartans. .
In Sparta marriage and child bearing was a privilege. It was very important for men and women to reproduce a strong male baby so that the child would grow up and protect Sparta in the Spartan military.
