Diversity in today's word is something that I feel is unavoidable. No matter where we go, or what we do, there will always be some one who is a different race, gender, or ethnicity. I do not think this is a bad thing though. I feel that we should try to expose ourselves to diversity when it possible. Diversity allows me to be exposed to different views and opinions which I may have never even thought of before. It allows us to be more aware of other cultures as well. When I know someone of a different country I am always anxious to become friends with them and learn about them. I do not think that people should be judged by where they are from, gender, race, or beliefs, that is unfair. Everyone deserves an equal chance. I know that if I were visiting another country I would not want to be judged only on the fact that I was foreign. I would hope that people would treat me the same way they treat their own.
It does not bother me when I know some one in the room is gay. I do not feel that it is my place to criticize some one just because of their sexual preference. I have a friend who is gay and sometimes it is hard for him to go places where people know that he is gay because of the negative reaction many people have towards homosexuality. When he came out and told us (his friends) some of my friends, who were once his friends too, shunned him. I tried to get them to understand that he is still the same person he always was, but they did not even want to hear it. He is a good person and deserves a chance just like the rest of us.
Having a diverse group of friends is a good thing because you have the opportunity to experience many different opinions, views, and lifestyles. I believe that it helps us to keep an open mind because when we have a diverse group of friends we do not just care about our own opinions anymore. The same goes for the people we are friend with, we all learn from each other.
