The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia

Dropping out of seventh grade, he claimed to have learned more in the streets than what the schools could have taught him. The people fled in fear by the White family name making it difficult for his children to attend school and social activities which was one reason that led him to move his family. Troublesome Susan Ray White (also known as Kirk), granddaughter of Bertie Mae, has been to jail on numerous counts of fighting, cussing out the police, and multiple drug charges. In fact, she even admitted in the interview that she loved a good fight. The youngest daughter of D. Ray, Sue Bob, is the mother of Brandon, who nearly killed his uncle. Allegedly, she was arrested after the completion of the documentary and has been in jail since. Taking a look into the routines of the White family, it was observed by DA Peter Hendricks of Boone County that "they are clever. They're not educated necessarily. But, they are very clever [and] crafty in what they do" (Nitzberg, Knoxville, 2009, #1). .
"And all they got to do is to fuss, fight, and party" (Nitzberg, Knoxville, 2009, #1). Constantly drinking and doing drugs of various sorts, the family is a whirlwind of trouble with a negative influence in society. As a whole, the White family exhibited certain behaviors that lead one to assume that they are a perfect example of Robert Agnew's general strain theory. In Agnew's theory of strain, he expanded on the range of behavior by including the frustrations that all individuals experience. It is concluded that "people of all social classes and economic positions deal with frustrations in routine daily life" (Tibbetts, 2012, p. 120). Agnew's model of theory began with introducing noxious stimuli and removing positive stimuli, which led towards the frustration and strain, attributing to anger and other negative emotions, a lack of legal coping mechanisms, which resulted in criminal behavior.
