Rise and Fall of the Kingdoms .
When David was near to die (1 Kings 2:1), he instructed Solomon to walk in God's ways (2:3). After the death of King David, Solomon formally succeeded his throne (1 Kings 2:12), and God was with Him because he loved God by walking according to the instruction given by his father David (1 Kings 3:3). Thus, Solomon was filled with all the wisdom, insight and understandings (1 Kings 3:12, 3:28, 4:29-34, 10:7, 10:13). Also, God gave him wealth and honour (1 Kings 3:13). His kingdom was expanded and was prosperous with peace and safety (1 King 4:24-25). Author of Kings also shows that God fulfilled His promise that was made with King David to build His temple through the son of David (1 Kings 6:38, 8:13). At the time of dedication of temple, Solomon accepts God's diving greatness, and he knows it is not permanent place for God. "But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?" (1 Kings 8:27). God showed a spiritual manifestation and affection to Israel when he promised to reside in the temple, placing His "name there forever" (9:3), and also promised to fulfill his all the promises that He made with King David if they obey and keep His decrees.
However, Solomon couldn't remain faithful and obedient to God throughout his life as his father David did that caused him to separate from God.
