Reaction: Culture and Development in the Philippines.
Way back to the history of our country we can witness that our country is a truly a westernized country. Colonizers such as the Spain, colonize us for more than 300 years and the Americans for nearly 50 years. Yes, it is indeed that the colony of Spain and Americans had a great help to prosper our country; the Spain by its legacy of Christianity and Americans by introducing the modern educational system in the Philippines. But if we will understand it deeply we are plunder already by the Spain and Americans. Why? Because, since the colonizers contributed something in helping our country to arise. Filipinos can now be easily captive by them, in a way that the Filipino will only remember their good contribution, not the true rationale behind it.
Culture rendered our lives meaningful. Upon reading the article I agree that culture does not destroy the resources base of their traditional culture but rather the changes that altered people's lives. There are views or points that I learned and reacted on it. First, According to Renato Constantino, Education miseducated the Filipino. Americans are the one who introduce the education in the Philippines as well as the use of English language, it is very hard for me to understand why he view the Filipino on this matter well in fact there is nothing wrong with it, but when I continue reading it, it does not well benefited us, many Filipinos remember the Americans is a true leaders and even recognize them as a model of excellence for Philippine society.
Second, since we are already influence by foreign culture, our culture slowly fades. And with that we already forgot the true culture of what we had. I felt guilty upon knowing these things because most of us Filipinos buy their products not only with Americans but also the Chinese products.
