The field of Psychology is so diverse, it has many research methods and has developed many perspectives to explain or justify human behaviour. The selected perspectives for analysing the Tumi's case study are socio-cultural perspective and psychoanalysis perspective. In the case study, it can easily be understood that a university student´s behaviour has changed due to the socio-cultural issue. The series of strange experiences as reported by Tumi were affecting her behaviour and can further substantiate the socio-cultural idea. Such as, seeing her grandmother, who had died years ago, was walking towards her from the kitchen door. The astonishing moment for Tumi was when her sister couldn't feel the presence of her grandmother in the kitchen. Also, having been brought up by her aunt due to her poor relationship with her mother can explain psycho dynamically some of her behaviours. The loss of that maternal figure as well as the robbery and lack of support from her family in general, can help reinforce the view that psychoanalytically she has been affected.
Psychoanalytical Perspective.
The behaviour of Tumi can be analysed through "psychoanalytic perspective" that is an expression of unconscious behavioural instinct. The technique of psychotherapy and theory of personality is referred to as psychoanalysis (Nolen-Hoeksema, Frederickson, Loftus & Wagenaar, 2009). This approach was introduced by Sigmund Freud in the twentieth century (Weiten, 2012). The basic purpose of introducing this theory was to develop a concept in psychology that portrays unconscious behaviour, thoughts, wishes, impulses, emotions, motivations and attitudes that are unaware to the patient (Santrock, 2003).
It was believed that when the wishes that are unacceptable came out of conscious awareness, it leads to unconsciousness and create impact on the feelings, actions and thoughts of the patient (Santrock, 2003).
