Iron Triangles and Two Party Government

An iron triangle is a three-sided relationship, which functions to cater and serve members of Congressional Committees, Interest groups, and Bureaucrats. Nearly all Congressional Committees have a highly functional relationship with individual agencies whose programs they control and appropriate money to. In turn these committees along with bureaucrats carry a solid relationship with various interest groups who might want to influence decisions and policy once it's on the floor. Iron triangles such as these can exist on a state and national level, as these same relationships can exist between state legislators and state limited interested groups often cases these relationships arise between farmers and agriculture regulators. While these triangles are often efficient at passing on the wishes of those who matter in the industries often times the general public is left completely outside of the conversations allowing for decisions that often only benefit corporations and private sector companies. The issue with this closed dialogue is the too often occurring monopolies that arise control entire markets with little regard for the general public. A prime example of how these closed-door conversations are regulated is the failed merger attempt by Comcast and Time Warner cable in situations where such large conglomerates have the chance to bloom the FCC and other trade governing bodies come in to maintain the balance and provide just enough friction in the merge attempts to discourage and eventually pick them apart. In the case of the Comcast- Time warner merger two days after being called for a hearing Time Warner Backed out, in the case in which the merger would have been successful the combined company would control nearly 50 % of all Internet in the United States. Such large holdings in such a basic necessity are rarely conducive to good practices and fair pricing to costumers. An example of one such monopoly that was picked apart by this safety net was the behemoth of the Bell Phone Company that was split into numerous subdivisions.
