Education and Socio-Economic Classes

The families that were already wealthy or owned swaths of land, had better access to further property ownership, education, health care and positions of power than families that did not. .
The challenge that I see is how can these opportunities be fairly distributed so that everyone can have an equal opportunity? In terms of education, efforts have been made to make testing fairer and schooling more accessible, but the data suggest that the level of inequality has stayed steady or is getting worse (Mantsios 293). For the poor and working class, the normal has always been to graduate high school and possibly attend college. Why are these two generalized social classes not preaching the same college guidance path to their children as the "more superior" class of individuals seem to be? According to many studies, a bachelor's degree in America is the foundation that determines what social class an individual will fall within. The problem for the lower class obtaining a college degree is that, "the chances of completing a college degree have deteriorated markedly for the bottom quartile (Mantsios 294).
Surprisingly enough, graduates of a four year college or university, for the better part of twenty years, have received a steady increase in salary. The same cannot be said about individuals without a bachelor's degree, except for in rare cases. The effect of this on lower class individuals is non mobility between the social and/or economic classes. The ideology of success is being passed down through the generations based on education. Just as an example, as a teenager, I do not remember ever knowing someone who made it through college and successfully completed a degree program. The majority of students' at the most prestigious colleges all have one thing in common: they were raised within middle to upper class households. The lower the class the more likely an individual is to suffer from material deprivation in their household.
