This song by Lee Brice, "I Drive Your Truck," explains and describes how a young man copes and gets through the loss of his dad. Being raised out in the woods and having his dad as his best friend, had a huge influence on his way of grieving. .
"I Drive Your Truck" is a song about a young man who is trying to deal with the death of his dad who died while in service overseas. The song starts out by describing little details about his dad's truck. The truck is described as a typical country boy's. It explains that there are bottles in the floor board, dog tags hanging on the rearview mirror, empty skoal cans lying around, a pair of boots and an army shirt lying in the back seat, and his old baseball cap on the dash board. Being in the truck and surrounded by all of his dads belongings it made him feel like his dad was there with him. That's why when he started to miss his dad or had a rough day, he would take the truck out for a spin on old back roads with country music playing on the radio, it made him feel like his dad was riding shotgun right beside him.
Growing up down south, fathers and sons tend to have a very special relationship. This young man's father was just like his best friend while growing up. His father was the one that taught him almost everything he knows now.
