Dance Critique - Kaleidoscope

Thursday April 2, I attended an event that in all honesty was not too thrilled. I am writing this critique to admit that I was wrong. Held at the RCC Auditorium at Bridgewater State University I attended the Dance Kaleidoscope 2015 was genuinely an artistic and creative experience to be a part of. It was full of life, incredible movement, and distinct colors and music portraying the very emotions being spilled out by performers. Although I was only able to stay for Act 1, I'd to recall two pieces which I thought was the most unique and relative to me.
Let's start with "Touchdown". Stepping aside from my love for the game of football and all sports alike for that matter, "Touchdown" to me was a very unique piece. What it focused on primarily was the great American tradition of a celebration dance in the end zone after a touchdown. It definitely sparked a light and influential mood. Very victorious and almost patriotic even. There was no distinct story as it illustrated the common tradition as a generality. The choreographer, Larry Souza used specific spaces. At one point he used the space of a line, in that all the performers were in a line, symbolizing unity and the harmony of a football team and how everyone takes part in the celebration of a touchdown. He also broke and pinpointed how people will often detach themselves from that line and celebrate in their way, mostly by dancing, because there were the ones responsible for the touchdown so it may mean more to them. This showed that it was a very emotional engaging piece rather than technical. The music being a played was a very familiar song that I have heard. And interestingly enough it was that same I'd hear whenever you watch a victory and the triumphal music hits right at the perfect time, almost magnifying the success. Hearing that music during the dance made me enjoy it even more, I could almost feel how the performer felt when they scored that touchdown.
