Today our society is consumed with the collection of that small green piece of paper; I am talking about the dollar. Nowadays people will do anything to get their hands on it, and when it comes to getting money there is almost no boundary that we would not cross for it. This all occurred to me one day, as I was sitting back watching this adrenaline filled show called the Fear Factor. For those of you not familiar with the show, it is about a group of contestants who are challenged to perform a number of terrifying and/or disgusting stunts, anything from driving dangerous courses to eating something nasty beyond imagination. When you first watch the show you cannot help but wonder who in their right mind would undergo such outrageous obstacles, but once you realize there is a cash prize of $50,000 these challenges do not seem as outrageous. How is it that something like money could suddenly make us overcome our fears or have us doing things we thought we would never do? This show really brought to my attention that money clearly possess a certain amount of power in our society, which in turn poses an important question, how much power does this really have over us, and how far would you go for some extra money?.
As I am sitting down watching this show I realize something that all of us in some way do crazy things for money, it may not always be as extreme as jumping off of moving cars or eating a mouthful of worms like those on fear factor, but at some point we all do things in pursuit of it. Growing up as a child my biggest dream was to be a lead bassist in a rock and roll band, when I was about ten years old I got my first bass and I was ready to begin my journey. I gathered a group of friends and we began our journey to make our dreams come true. It didn't matter how long it would take, I was going to put the practice in and become great enough to make it. Now needless to say I am not the lead bass player for a world famous band, and I am not rocking out across the nation selling out arenas, but that is okay I came to a point in my life where life got real and I needed to get a job to pay some bills.
