The Polish Resistance of WWII

As the newly relocated government were organizing and stabilizing, they determined five essential tasks to be completed with haste. The first priority was to establish radio communication within occupied Poland, followed by the next step of establishing a Polish courier system that would allow for messages to reach from eastern to western Europe. Next the government sought to train the courier operative in parachute techniques so they could infiltrate where need be. After the couriers were in place, they would develop Polish land and air forces to aid the Underground Army that had all the while been training and stockpiling in preparation for other orders. Finally the Poles would incorporate the Underground Army's actions in a broader scope of Allied movements and strategy across Europe (SA197).
Poland successfully created their own radio communication network at an early stage as they had hoped. Agents in occupied territory were able to maintain this line from Poland back to the west throughout the conflict. They did not allowed other allied nations to directly use their sources, but the Poles openly shared intelligence. This proved invaluable during the early stages of the war when the British were rushing to establish communications in continental Europe and the French were bogged down by lack of support from communists (SA 197).
In December 1939 Poland requested assistance from Britain to enhance their air courier capabilities with decent aircraft, but the Allies ultimately determined a ground route was more suitable. Even as the war dragged on and the European landscape became intensely hostile, the Allies still insisted that couriers from Poland did not need to take to the air (SA 197). Britain consistently rejected larger plans by the Polish for smaller scale, and cheaper, tactics. Winston Churchill saw Poland as a prime territory to realize his strategy to "set Europe ablaze" with covert operations that would harass the Nazis and keep their resources stretched (BLAZE).
