People are used to think plagiarism is a bad thing, but Lethem does not think that way. He jumps out of circle and takes risks to view from different angles towards this phenomenon. Therefore, he comes up many new thoughts and all of them show his own identity. When someone brought a copy of his first novel, he stated that "The fertile spirit of stray connection this appropriated object conveyed back to me --- the strange beauty of its second use --- was a reward for being a published writer I could never have fathomed in advance" (219). When Lethem did not view his first novel just as a book, he noticed something different. He found out the new meaning for his book --- the beauty of second use, which he never realized before. His exploring made him see the special value for the second use and reflected his own identity. Lethem got great spirit from taking risk on viewing thing from different angle. Another author, Sacks, also learned from taking adventure of things. Sacks, at first, does not have special sense about taking risks, but after knowing the story of Torey, a blind man, who developed a way to look by his mind's eyes, he rebuilt his idea. Sacks stated that "Torey was advised to rebuild his representation of the world on the basis of hearing and touch, and to 'forget about sight and visualizing altogether'." But this was something that Torey could not or would not do." (333) Most blind people choose to live by depending on their other senses. This is a much normal idea, but Torey took risks and tried to develop a new way for himself. By developing the skill that looking through mind eyes, he built identity that is unique for others. It not only makes people revise their idea about blind people, but also give the special meaning for his identity and life. As same as Lethem, looking one thing from different angles successfully created the unique identity for Nafisi.
