Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, is a drama about a mans life before, during and after success in Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. Throughout his life he was on a search for his childhood who appeared and disappeared constantly from his life. The only reason he went on the game show was to find her. Throughout the film we are shown the important and difficult decisions he has to make and these normally came with severe consequences. There are many important decisions made by Jamal but one of the most important ones shown was when he chose to leave Latika and Salim in the abandoned hotel. Salim had been drinking and went for a walk. On his return he brought with him a gin and kicked Jamal out. Jamal protested and demanded to be let back in but when Salim threatened to shoot him, he decided to leave. This was a wise decision on Jamal's behalf as the tone of Salim's voice seemed very serious, the audience was convinced he would be shot. Jamal's face had a look of terror and disappointment as he could not believe this was his own brother threatening him. The look on his face was shown with a close up of Jamal and the audience was able see just how he felt.
The effects this had on Jamal was he was left in the huge city on Mumbai by himself. He had no money, food or protection so he was very unsafe. This was also the moment when Jamal realised he really needed to find Latika as he knew she was in for an unsafe life. Another important decision made by Jamal was choosing to go along with Salim's plan. Salim had created a plan to save themselves form the blind beggars life Maman was making for them. They would throw acid into one of Maman's gangsters face then run. Jamal had to risk his life when following through with this plan because if it was unsuccessful, their fate was probably death. This was a very risky decision and when Salim was explaining the plan to Jamal, we could see the look of doubt in his face with a close up of him.
