But how much of that is a good thing?.
             While its scale of approximately 1.2 billion users is astonishing, it is also safe to say that lifestyle changes being made using social media should be watched closely, and they have been. Science has shown that health has a major predication in regard to Facebook and other social networking sites due to its psychological and neurological manipulating abilities. Facebook and other news media sites have been shown to trigger neurological changes (dopamine) that is similar to the effects of candy in children. The stimulation creates a sensation of thrill and excitement and, once achieved, can be exceptionally habit forming. Even more so due to the fact that many people don't realize how addicting Facebook can become until it's too late. The main concern is that people will become addicted to the point where they will have less time for more important things, like staying physically fit and eating healthy, or simply paying attention while driving to avoid a fatal accident. Other factors such as bullying and self-esteem issues have already been seen to affect children and even adults. There have even been several instances of suicide and murder investigations relating to Facebook posts (3). It's safe to assume that at face value, Facebook is a nice, entertaining way to keep up with current events in the lives of those you know and don't know. But in reality, there is a whole other hidden version that the site won't reveal at face value. .
             No matter what you are doing or how happy you are, one look on Facebook can convince you that everyone you know is having a much better time than you. Facebook provides the ideal looking glass to comparing yourself to others and ultimately building insecurities for yourself. Seeking approval from fellow friends on social media only adds to your depression when you do not receive a high enough number of "likes" on a picture.
