Fashion industries create a picture perfect image of what the perfect man or woman should look like and this challenges the average person to attempt with all their effort to work towards looking like this. These companies create a distorted perception of beauty in the minds of their consumers. They do this by taking men and women and applying makeup, hair products and photoshop to their faces and bodies to make them look absolutely flawless. This version of beauty they create is never too average and never too far-fetched in order to keep their consumers working towards it and never reach it. After using the product, when consumers realise they cannot reach that level of beauty it often leads to low self-esteem and lower self-worth, thinking they are not good enough. .
The overall health of youth ages eleven to fourteen is impacted by pressures from fashion industries. Currently, 47 percent of girls between the ages of 11 and 14 refuse to take part in activities that will reveal their bodies in any way like swimming or performing in a school play. In rare and extreme cases this can also lead to serious eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia and sometimes even suicide. In my everyday life I see girls saying negative things about their face and body expecting to look like the women on billboards and magazines, feeling miserable. These companies impact us raising the expectations we have for ourselves, perfection. About a year ago, I had noticed that the pride and confidence I had once seen in one of my closest friends had been disappearing a little more every day. I had asked her why - because one of the boys had said one contemptuous comment to her. This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable, especially in the current world. .
Beauty is not a method of judging someone's personality or the way they look, it's simply not the way. The only way you can truly understand if someone is beautiful is my talking to them with an open-mind and coherence.
