Have you ever wondered why you take those general education classes? Why are they required? They bring down your GPA if you do not pass them, and the subjects are not related to your major. Imagine a college or university system that offers classes that are only based on majors, no more general education classes that are not relate. Students have the same amount of general education class as they do core major classes, and they take just as long to complete. General ed classes should not be required and are a waste of time. In order to change these circumstances, we can change the way public school approaches education, not require general ed courses after high school, and base colleges on major core classes.
First, public school systems should take education more serious, there have been many incidents that I have seen a teacher not make an effort to motivate students into really applying themselves. This may be because of the public school teacher salary, by increasing their income they are more likely to take on a more serious role in our path of learning. If throughout school teachers focused more on useful knowledge rather than the "required" studies, we as students would be more prepared for the upcoming years. This would not only affect how we approach every day life, now being able to take what was learned and apply it to situations, but would give us a sense of motivation knowing that this knowledge was something that could be put to use. Shelley Wright, a grade school teacher says that students are curious to learn about things that grab their interest and with the "required" learning objectives, those children no longer have the urge to learn. And who would? No one wants to take time and learn about something that doesn't fascinate them. This affects ones education by not allowing one to gain intelligence about something that intrigues them and may help them throughout life.
