With the emergent of video sharing sites, people all over the world are able to share content online. Even individuals, amateur videographers, artists, or corporates promoting their brands wants to get their hands on such service. The core focus of this study will be on the comparison of video zeitgeist sites such as YouTube and Vimeo with particular interest of search trends in Singapore. .
Methodology and Observations .
After a thorough comparison of these video zeitgeist sites, it is clear each of the sites offers different features. YouTube is the most popular video-sharing site, with 800 million unique visitors monthly. It allows users to upload, view, share, edit videos. It has a wide variety of user-generated and corporate media videos, uploaded by individuals or media corporations that offer their material via YouTube as part of YouTube partnership program. Due to its large audience base, contents are lost among hundreds of videos uploaded every minute, resulting in huge amount of competition. The site allows registered users to upload videos to their channel and subscribe to other users while unregistered users can browse and watch videos without any limits. Videos that might be potentially offensive are available only to registered users consenting to be at least 18 years old. .
Vimeo has 70 million unique visitors monthly. With a smaller audience base, users are more engaged in the contents posted on the site. Vimeo is largely used by professional crowds who are keen in creative and HD video content. The video quality on Vimeo is way better than other video-sharing sites. Based on observations of my own web interactions, each of the sites offers different approaches and practices. .
Ease of Use - YouTube is fairly easy to use and aids user to find what they are looking for. The onsite search engine with mis-spelling auto complete search makes searching for information a breeze.
